Ages 5 – 14 – With new Covid-19 precautions, two groups will be formed with special attention of keeping bubbles together rather than age of child. No group will be larger than 8 children, which allows social distancing protocols to be enforced within our indoor spaces. Each group will have 1 hour and 25 minutes of wildlife art (which often includes some outdoor exploration and opportunities for connecting with nature via sketching) and 1 hour and 25 minutes of environmental education with a 10 minute snack break.Ages 5 – 14 – Groups are divided into a younger and older group and each group will have a class on Wildlife Art and a class on Environmental Education (which includes mostly outdoor exploration), with a short 15 minute break between classes.

Wildlife Art

This is an intensely fun program for artists of all levels. Our engaging instructor will provide individual mentoring and support as students move forward at their own pace. All materials, including art canvases are provided, and multiple mediums will be explored.  Outdoor observation, sketching, and painting will take place when the weather cooperates as we tie together the two worlds of art and nature. Fall 2020 will be taught by artist John LeFlock.

herons nestingEnvironmental Education

This hands on environmental education program introduces and connects students to the natural world. Participants will enjoy learning through environmental games, hands on science activities and outdoor explorations.  This is a science based nature experience.  Topics will differ from other homeschool programs so that returning students will be experiencing new things.

With everything going on with Covid-19, we recognize that not everyone is comfortable with an indoor classroom situation, so we are offering an outdoors only option that will run for 6 weeks with the possibility of extension depending on how the weather is treating us. This hands on environmental education program will introduce and connect students to the natural world. Participants will enjoy learning through environmental games, hands on science activities and outdoor explorations. This is a science and research based nature experience taught by instructors who have a background in teaching and biology and in depth knowledge to share about the reserves unique wetland ecosystem.

Have fun learning how to sketch and collect notes while observing the Flora and Fauna within the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve. Create a journal with your drawings and notes while learning new information about the various species and specimens during walks with our artist, John Le Flock. Your journal will be a permanent record for enjoyment and reference that can be added to on future walks.
